Insurance companies file writ against govt over unpaid COVID-19 claims

KATHMANDU: An insurance-related writ has been filed at the Supreme Court against the government.

The Nepal Insurance Association and 12 non-life insurance companies have filed the writ demanding payment of claims for COVID-19 insurance coverage.

The insurance companies have named the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, along with the Ministry of Finance, as defendants in the case.

The government owes over Rs 3.5 billion in unpaid COVID-19 insurance claims, but the payment has not yet been made.

The insurance companies are demanding the immediate release of the required funds.

The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing for Monday.
