KATHMANDU: The investigation commission into the Saurya Airlines crash has released its preliminary report.

The commission, chaired by Ratish Chandra Lal Suman, has conducted a study into the incident and outlined their findings.

The report indicates that the crash was caused by a failure to adhere to aircraft operation regulations.

The commission revealed that Saurya Airlines did not follow the required procedures for loading cargo as specified in their operational and ground handling manuals.

The commission noted that the aircraft failed to perform the necessary calculations for takeoff speed considering external temperature, airport altitude, and the weight of the cargo. This lapse in procedures was a significant factor in the crash.

The report emphasizes the importance of adhering to loading requirements, specifying the necessary weight limits and safety protocols.

It criticizes Saurya Airlines for not paying adequate attention to these guidelines before takeoff and for not following the proper standards for takeoff speeds based on the aircraft’s load.

The commission has advised all airlines to strictly adhere to cargo flight manuals to prevent such incidents in the future.

On July 24, the Saurya Airlines crash at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) resulted in 18 fatalities. Captain Manish Ratna Shakya was rescued alive from the wreckage.
