Family remains silent on mother & son murder; police begin investigation

KATHMANDU: An investigation is underway following the murder of a 40-year-old woman, Nirmala Thapa, and her six-year-old son, Aarush Thapa, in Sorung Chhabise, Katari Municipality-10.

Despite the incident occurring 24 hours ago, no formal complaint has been filed by the family with the police.

Nirmala and her son were found dead in their bed early Thursday morning. Initial reports indicate they were killed with a sharp weapon.

After local residents reported the incident, a team from the local police station in Katari was dispatched to the scene.

The bodies were examined and then taken to Katari Hospital for autopsy, according to Acting Inspector Umesh Mahato from the Katari Police Office.

As of Thursday evening, no complaint had been submitted by the victims’ family to the police.

Nirmala Thapa’s husband, Ashok Thapa, had remarried and moved to India two years ago.

Following her husband’s departure, Nirmala had been running a shop near the local ward office with her son.

The villagers notified the police after discovering the mother and son dead in their bed.

A specialized police team has been assigned to investigate the case, as reported by District Police Office’s Information Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajan Chapagain.
