KMC honors Palesha Goverdhan with Rs 500,000 cash award
Palesha won the bronze medal last Friday in the women's under-57 kg category of the K-44 event at the Paris Paralympics.
KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has honored para taekwondo athlete Palesha Goverdhan with a cash prize of Rs 500,000 for winning a bronze medal at the Paris Paralympics 2024.
During a ceremony held today at the Kathmandu Plaza, the city’s mayor, Balen Shah, presented Palesha with a certificate of honor, while Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol handed her the cash prize.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the spokesperson of the Metropolitan City, Navin Manandhar; the head of the Social Committee, Ram Kumar KC; President of the Taekwondo Association, Prakash Shumsher Rana; Olympian Sangina Vaidya; and Palesha’s parents, Panita and Pradeep Goverdhan, along with other officials and athletes from the sports community.
Palesha won the bronze medal last Friday in the women’s under-57 kg category of the K-44 event at the Paris Paralympics.
She secured the medal by defeating Marija Micev of Serbia with a score of 15-8.
This marks the first Olympic medal ever won by a Nepali athlete.
