KATHMANDU: Minister for Drinking Water Pradeep Yadav has stated that the government is implementing short-term, medium-term, and long-term plans to provide safe and clean drinking water to the general public.

In response to a question raised by National Assembly member Madan Kumari Sah Garima during today’s session, Minister Yadav reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fully implementing the plans to ensure easy access to clean drinking water for citizens.

He mentioned that the Melamchi Drinking Water Project, which has been on hold, will be resumed from the first week of Ashoj to provide drinking water facilities to Kathmandu residents.

Yadav added that water will be directed to the project’s tunnel as soon as weather conditions improve.

Due to the irregular availability of water from the Melamchi project, alternative measures have been adopted to supply water to Kathmandu residents.

He informed that the government is taking necessary steps to secure the dam site of the Melamchi project and ensure regular water supply.

In the Terai-Madesh region, although drinking water has been provided through deep boring, recent water source depletion has led to some issues.

The ministry is making necessary efforts to complete incomplete water projects on time and has requested the Finance Ministry for the required budget.

Minister Yadav noted that despite clear government directives, some projects face implementation problems due to delays caused by bureaucratic file handling in various ministries.
