KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress MP Shankar Bhandari has called for the dismissal of Information and Communication Minister Prithivi Subba Gurung.

The demand for dismissal comes after the minister allegedly used derogatory language against Inspector General of Police (IGP) Basanta Kunwar in a public setting.

In a press release, MP Bhandari urged Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to take action against Minister Gurung. “I strongly condemn the use of inappropriate language by the government spokesperson and Information and Communication Minister towards the head of the police organization, which is responsible for maintaining peace and security in the country. I call upon the Prime Minister to dismiss the Information and Communication Minister,” Bhandari stated in the release. “If there is any compromise in peace and security in the future, the government and the Prime Minister themselves will be held accountable,” he added.

The controversy arose after Minister Gurung made an inappropriate remark, suggesting that the IGP should “have his tongue cut off” for allegedly obstructing police integration efforts. Following the backlash, Prime Minister Oli has reportedly issued a warning to Gurung.
