CHITWAN: The BP Koirala Memorial Hospital in Chitwan has prepared for developing infrastructure to launch the bone marrow transplant service.
A bone marrow transplant service unit is to be established here and the initiative is supported by the Government of the People’s Republic of China.
Hospital executive director Dr Shivaji Poudel said they have been promised the financial to technical assistance from China to operate the service.
The Chinese side is to support Nepal from building construction to equipment procurement to training the workforce required.
The project to construct the building for the service is likely to start from the end of this year (2024).
Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr Roshan Pokhrel, and China International Development Cooperation Agency’s Chair Luo Zhaohui on April 25 signed on an agreement regarding the implementation of the project on behalf of their respective sides.
A team from China has already inspected a site selected for the project construction.
The project to construct the building is expected to complete within one year of the commencement, Dr Poudel said.
Though bone marrow transplant facility is available sporadically in Kathmandu, this is the first time in Nepal that preparations have begun for providing the service in a dedicated way. The hospital will make a five-bed unit ready for this service, it is said.
