KATHMANDU: The National Photojournalist Group has showcased images of the Himalayas located in Nepal.

The group organized a photo exhibition starting today, Monday, at Patan Durbar Square in Lalitpur, to mark the group’s 27th anniversary.

The National Photojournalist Group has been organizing various programs, including photo exhibitions, every year on the occasion of World Photojournalism Day.

According to Pradupraj Wanta, the president of the National Photojournalist Group, the photo exhibition was initiated only three years ago, and this year’s exhibition is a continuation of that tradition. He stated that the exhibition aims to raise awareness about the impacts of climate change on the world’s mountains, including those in Nepal.

President Bant mentioned that the exhibition features 55 photographs of mountains taken by 40 photojournalists. He also highlighted that, compared to the past, the current conditions are not as favorable for journalists to capture photos. He noted that artificial intelligence (AI) has recently posed a challenge to the profession of photojournalism. He explained that AI and mobile photography have adversely affected professional photojournalism.

President Bant emphasized the need to develop the capacity of the photojournalism profession and to promote tourism through photography by showcasing Nepal’s historical images to the world. He stated that historical photographs play a crucial role in enhancing the nation’s identity.
