KATHMANDU: Bechan Jha, who was arrested in the case of fake Bhutanese refugees, has been ordered to be sent to prison for preliminary investigation.

The order was issued by Judge Tirthraj KC of the Kathmandu District Court.

The decision follows a hearing on Jha’s bail request.

Jha was apprehended by a special team of the Nepal Police after being arrested in India and brought back to Nepal.

He faces allegations of having connections to high-level political figures in the fake Bhutanese refugee case.

A check worth 20 million Nepalese rupees was reportedly issued in his name.
