UML Lawmaker Sherpa: Govt must allocate budget for climate change research

KATHMANDU: In a recent session of the National Assembly, Sonam Geljen Sherpa, a lawmaker from the CPN-UML, highlighted the increasing impact of climate change in Nepal and urged the government to pay attention to the issue.

Speaking during the Sunday meeting, Sherpa pointed out that the recent floods in Thame, Solukhumbu, were a result of climate change.

He criticized the government for not making necessary preparations despite the growing problems caused by climate change.

Sherpa emphasized the need for the government to robustly raise the issue on international platforms and called for an end to the current system where daily research and studies do not translate into adequate public awareness.

He also stressed the importance of the government actively participating in international discussions on climate change and allocating a budget for climate research.
