KATHMANDU: A police constable has been sent to jail on charges of raping a minor at a police post.

The accused, Nawaraj Shrestha, was serving at the Kamalbinayak post in Bhaktapur.

Shrestha is accused of raping a minor inside the police post on July 13.

On August 9, the Bhaktapur District Court ordered his imprisonment.

According to police, the incident occurred when the minor and a young man were chatting near Kalampokhari late at night.

Constable Shrestha allegedly detained them but later released the boy while keeping the girl at the post, where he raped her.

The next day, the police arrested Shrestha and filed a case against him based on the complaint.

The victim reported that after the rape, Shrestha gave her 100 rupees and sent her home at around 3 AM.

It is also stated in the charge sheet that Shrestha washed the bed sheet the next morning in an attempt to destroy evidence.
