KATHMANDU: On Thursday, a traffic accident occurred in Gatthaghar, Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-3, Bhaktapur.

The incident resulted in the death of a scooter rider after being hit by a truck, causing tension throughout Gatthaghar for the day.

The accident happened at 1:59 PM when a truck with registration number NA 6 Kha 2173 collided with a scooter bearing registration number BA 49 P 8944.

The deceased has been identified as 65-year-old Uttam Koirala, originally from Kahare, Chishankhugadhi Rural Municipality-4, Okhaldhunga, and residing in Kapan, Kathmandu. His relatives have already identified the body.

Throughout Thursday, rumors circulated that the traffic police were responsible for the accident. However, the police have confirmed that these rumors are false.

It has been verified that the traffic police did not intervene with the scooter involved in the accident.

CCTV footage from the accident scene shows that both the scooter and the truck were not stopped by the traffic police.

Eyewitnesses had protested on Thursday, alleging that the scooter, which was being checked by the traffic police, was struck by the truck.
