JANAKPURDHAM: The federal government has expanded the Food and Nutrition Security Programme for the flood-affected people in four additional local levels in Madhesh State.

The programme has been extended with support from the World Bank.

This programme was under implementation in four districts of the state.

It has been recently extended to the flood-hit rural municipalities of Dhanusha and Mahottari districts, targeting the indigent and underprivileged farmers there.

Yugal Kishor Tiwari, the senior agriculture development officer at the Food and Nutrition Security Improvement Programme Cluster Unit, said the programme has been expanded to Samsi and Sonama of Mahottari and to Bateshwar and Janaknandani rural municipalities of Dhanusha.

The programme has already come into implementation since this month in the rural municipalities selected in the second phase.

Before this, the programme is implemented in Mukhiyapatti Musarniya and Dhanauji of Dhanusha and Pipara and Ekdara municipalities in Mahottari in the first phase.

The programme is under implementation in Saptari and Siraha districts of the province as well.

Tiwari said the federal government brought the programme with the technical assistance of the Food and Agriculture Organization and the financial support of the Global Agriculture Food Security Programme, under the World Bank’s monitoring.
