BP Koirala Cancer Hospital to expand services across all 7 states

KATHMANDU: BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Bharatpur is set to expand its services to all seven provinces of Nepal.
The hospital’s director, Dr. Shivaji Paudel, informed that under the government’s program, the Central Cancer Hospital is extending its services at the state level.
Dr. Paudel mentioned that the hospital is planning to operate a minimum of five-bed cancer treatment units in one government hospital within each states.
According to the hospital, the services will be expanded to Dhankuta in Koshi State, Janakpur in Madhesh State, Damauli in Gandaki State, Dang in Lumbini State, Surkhet in Karnali State, and Dhangadhi in Sudurpashchim State.
For Bagmati State, however, the decision is yet to be made on whether to expand the services in Sindhuli or Sindhupalchowk, as per Dr. Paudel.
The expanded services will include the deployment of skilled doctors from the Cancer Hospital.
Dr. Paudel stated that the local doctors and nursing staff will receive training from experienced doctors at the Cancer Hospital to establish cancer treatment centers.
]He also mentioned that a team of doctors from the hospital will visit the provincial service centers at least once a month, staying for a week to train the local doctors and healthcare workers.
