KATHMANDU: In August, torrential rains in Vietnam’s northern mountainous region have resulted in nine fatalities and injured seven others due to landslides and flooding, according to Vietnam News Agency.
Between Aug 1 and 8, 121 homes were damaged, and 10 required urgent relocation, as reported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Additionally, around 170 sites experienced erosion, leading to significant traffic disruptions.
The National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting predicts that heavy rainfall will persist in the northern region until Aug 17.
From early this year up to Aug 5, natural disasters in Vietnam have caused 111 deaths and disappearances, marking the highest number for this period in the past five years, as stated by the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.
