KATHMANDU: The identity of the woman found dead on the road near Geta Medical College in Kailali has been confirmed.
The deceased, identified as Kumari Chaudhary, was a 35-year-old resident of Barbatta, Ward No. 11 in the Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City.
Kailali’s Chief Superintendent of Police (SP) Padma Bahadur Bista reported that the identification was made based on a passport-sized photo found in her bag. “The photo had a photo studio stamp, which helped us in identifying her,” said SP Bista.
He further explained that the investigation revealed she had been heading to her maternal home when she met with the incident. According to the police, she panicked when an auto-rickshaw driver tried to take her through an inner road from the gate, leading her to jump out of the vehicle.
The deceased was traveling in an auto-rickshaw with registration number 01001 Ha 4857 from the Rajpur Flour Mill in Dhangadhi to her maternal home in Kanchanpur. The auto-rickshaw driver, 36-year-old Jit Bahadur Damai from Godawari Municipality-5, attempted to speed through an internal road upon reaching the Geta Medical College area.
This caused the woman to jump out of the vehicle in panic.
Both the auto-rickshaw driver and her 23-year-old brother-in-law, Kalu Damai, who was also in the vehicle, have been detained by the police.
They have claimed that they fled the scene because they feared getting caught after the woman jumped out of the auto-rickshaw.
The two individuals are currently in custody at the District Police Office, where an investigation is ongoing.
