KATHMANDU: The death toll in the knife attack in Southport, Merseyside in northwest England, has risen to three.

Merseyside Police confirmed on Tuesday that the death toll from the knife attack in Southport, northwest England, has risen to three.

In their statement, they disclosed that a nine-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries in hospital early this morning, following the incident which occurred yesterday morning.

The initial victims of Monday’s attack were six and seven-year-old girls. Additionally, eight other children sustained stab wounds, with five of them currently in critical condition. Two adults also suffered serious injuries during the incident and remain in critical condition.

The knife attack took place around 11:50 a.m. (1050 GMT) at a property on Hart Street, Southport. The children affected were participating in a session at the “Taylor Swift Yoga and Dance Workshop” designed for minors aged seven to 11 when the assailant entered the premises.

A 17-year-old boy from Banks in Lancashire has been apprehended on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. The motive behind the attack is still unclear, and authorities have cautioned against speculation as the investigation continues.
