Pathibhara Temple in Bhedetar emerges as alternative to Taplejung’s Pathibhara

KATHMANDU: Ram Babu Yadav, who came from Siraha, visited the Bhedetar Temple on Saturday. He expressed that whenever he worships at this temple, his wishes are fulfilled, which is why he visited it for the second time.
Similarly, Vijay Kumar Gautam, from Duhabi Municipality, also visited Bhedetar for worship, believing his wishes would be granted upon completion of the puja.
Umesh Sah of Biratnagar expressed his family’s wishes for progress and peace upon visiting the temple. He mentioned, “It takes us a few days to reach the Pathibhara Temple in Taplejung, but due to its significance similar to a major temple, we perform worship here.”
Priests at the temple, including Ait Bahadur Limbu from various parts of Nepal and places like Sikkim and Darjeeling in India, informed that about 250,000 devotees visit annually, with up to 500 visiting daily.
They believe that their prayers are fulfilled when they worship at this temple with their families.
Due to the daily worship sessions from morning till evening, there is a constant bustle of people here. Priest Limbu highlighted that Bhedetar has developed as a religious tourist destination in Koshi Province.
In the past, sacrifices of animals like goats and roosters were performed at this temple in honor of the goddess.
Now, offerings of fruits, flowers, and ceremonial items are made instead.
Established in 2057 BS (2000 AD) at an altitude of 1400 meters above sea level, the temple houses the deity’s statue where worship has been conducted since its establishment.
Visitors come here mainly to see Pathibhara from Taplejung, considering it a symbol of the temple’s worship and reverence.
