Kirtipur mayor Nakarmi laid to rest in accordance with Newari tradition

KATHMANDU: Kirtipur Municipality Mayor Rajkumar Nakarmi has been cremated in accordance with the Newari tradition at Kirtipur’s Dikhu Ghat.
His son Rahul Nakarmi performed the funeral rites on his earthly remains.
Prior to the funeral, Mayor Nakarmi’s body was kept at the Kirtipur Municipality office in Bharkhahiti for public homage.
Various leaders including Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Congress Vice Chair Dhanraj Gurung, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakashman Singh, Minister of Health and Population Pradeep Poudel, and MP Rajendrakumar Kesi among others paid their respects to the late Nakarmi.
Mayor Nakarmi passed away late Thursday night at Bir Hospital during treatment.
Elected as the mayor of Kirtipur Municipality in the 2079 BS local elections, Nakarmi had long suffered from a chronic illness.
He was born on Ashadh 20, 2020 BS in Kirtipur-3.
Since 2040 BS, he had been actively involved in Nepali Congress politics from his student days onwards.
He is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter.
