KATHMANDU: The 33rd Summer Olympics will kick off on Friday amidst a special ceremony in the French capital, Paris.

Although some competitions of the Paris Olympics have already begun, the official opening ceremony will take place amid grand festivities along the Seine River.

The Seine River is one of France’s most famous rivers, flowing through the capital city of Paris from east to west.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the French government have made efforts to make the Olympic opening ceremony special and unique.

The highlight of the opening day will be a parade of athletes on the banks of the Seine River. According to organizers, more than 10,000 athletes will participate in the Olympic Parade.

The parade will cover a distance of 6 kilometers along the Seine River.

Each participating country in the Olympics has arranged for a boat in the parade. Spectators will have the opportunity to watch the parade from various vantage points.

From Nepal, seven athletes in six sports will participate in the Paris Olympics.

They include Prince Dahal in badminton, Santu Shrestha in table tennis, Santoshi Shrestha in athletics, Susmita Nepal in shooting, Alexander Shah in swimming, and Manita Shrestha Pradhan in judo.

Table tennis player Syantu Shrestha has secured a spot after passing the qualifying rounds, confirming his Olympic journey.

Running until Aug 11, the Olympics will see athletes from 206 countries compete in 32 sports, with a total of 329 events.
