KATHMANDU: Bahadur Singh Lama (Tamang), the leader of the Nepali Congress parliamentary party, has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Bagmati State.

State Chief Yadav Chandra Sharma appointed Lama as the Chief Minister today, in accordance with Article 168(2) of the constitution.

Lama had submitted a claim to Sharma today, supported by signatures from 64 members of the State Assembly from Nepali Congress and CPN (UML), asserting his candidacy for Chief Minister.

The resignation of former Chief Minister Shalikram Jamkattel was accepted, prompting Province Chief Sharma to invite claims for forming a government by 5 PM today, as per Article 168(2) of the constitution.

The swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed Chief Minister Lama is scheduled for tomorrow morning at 11 AM, as informed by the office of the State Chief.

Congress parliamentary party whip Govinda Prasad Lamsal, preparing for the formation of a 13-member cabinet consisting of 7 Congress and 6 UML members, revealed their readiness for tomorrow.
