KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Ajaya Kumar Chaurasiya, has assumed his office at the Ministry in Singha Durbar today.

On the occasion, he said the laws would be formulated so as to give justice to the people.

“Since it is the Ministry that drafts laws, we will formulate laws so that the people get justice, taking into consideration how many bills are there and what more laws are there remaining to be enacted,” the Law Minister said.

Law Minister Chaurasiya was born to mother Laxmi Devi and father Hari Kishor in Parsa on 28 January 1965.

Chaurasiya started his political career being associated with the Nepali Congress.

He was elected the Member of the House of Representatives from Parsa electoral constituency number 2 in the general election held in November 2022.

He was also elected to the House of Representatives from the same constituency in 2056 BS. Chaurasiya was elected to the Constituent Assembly from Parsa constituency number 3 after that.

He was the member of the Parliament’s Public Account Committee and the National Interest Protection Committee.

Chaurasiya was detained from time to time for taking part in the Second People’s Movement against the direct rule of the king in 2006/07. He spent about four months in jail in Birgunj in this connection.

Currently, Chaurasiya is the central committee member of the Nepali Congress.
