Manakamana Cable Car to close for 50 days for major digital upgrade

KATHMANDU: Manakamana Darshan Pvt Ltd has announced the temporary closure of the Manakamana Cable Car for 50 days starting today.
The closure is necessary for upgrading the cable car’s analog technology to a modern digital system.
Ujjwal Sherchan, Deputy General Manager of Manakamana Darshan Pvt Ltd, highlighted that this upgrade includes replacing the main cable wire, which has been in place for 26 years since installation.
Skilled technicians from the Austrian company Doppelmayr oversee this upgrade’s various stages.
Despite the cable car service being temporarily halted, the restaurant service at the bottom station located in Ichchakamana-4 Kurintar (Cheres), Chitwan, will remain operational.
The Manakamana cable car, which facilitates pilgrims visiting the Manakamana Temple, a significant religious site in Sahid Lakhan Rural Municipality of Gorkha, has been operational since Mangsir 8, 2055 (24 Nov, 1998).
