In the semifinal clash against Canada, Julian Alvarez and captain Lionel Messi each scored a goal, leading Argentina to victory.
The match, held at MetLife Stadium in the United States, saw Alvarez score in the 22nd minute, giving Argentina an early lead with a straightforward goal assisted by Rodrigo De Paul.
Captain Messi extended Argentina’s lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 51st minute.
This goal, facilitated by Enzo Fernandez’s pass, ensured Argentina’s comfortable victory and advancement to the final.
Notably, this was Messi’s first goal in the ongoing Copa America tournament.
Canada, playing in their first-ever semifinal, had a few chances to score against Argentina but failed to capitalize on them.
Canada had secured their semifinal spot by defeating Venezuela in a penalty shootout in the quarterfinals.
Defending champions Argentina had also advanced to the semifinals by defeating Ecuador in a penalty shootout in the quarterfinals.
