KATHMANDU: The entire village of Shuklagandaki-7, Kaure in Tanahun is in mourning after three people lost their lives in a landslide.

The incident struck when the house of 40-year-old local resident Hira Nepali was buried by a landslide.

Along with him, neighbors 37-year-old Anisha Bastola and 65-year-old Shyam Bhandari also lost their lives, plunging the entire village into grief.

Municipal Chief Krishnaraj Pandit informed that the three people died in the landslide that occurred on Saturday following continuous rainfall since Friday night.

Four other individuals were injured in the landslide. After receiving treatment at the GP Koirala National Respiratory Treatment Center, they have returned home.

Neighbors Bastola and Bhandari were attempting to move Hira Nepali’s belongings due to the increased risk of landslides following relentless rainfall. They were also caught in the landslide and went missing.

The discovery of their bodies has left the village in mourning, according to Municipal Chief Pandit.

“Currently, there is a crowd of locals and well-wishers offering condolences to the bereaved families,” he said. “The entire municipality is in mourning due to the incident.”

Municipal Chief Pandit also informed that the municipality has decided to cover the medical expenses of all the injured and provide funeral expenses to the families of the deceased.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar Rai of the District Police Office stated that the bodies of all three deceased were handed over to their families after post-mortem examinations and were cremated according to local customs.

He mentioned that Hira Nepali’s body was found on Saturday, while the bodies of Bastola and Bhandari were discovered on Sunday morning during the search.

The Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and local residents were involved in the search and rescue operations.
