KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecasted that the monsoon will gradually become inactive over the next few days, and most parts of the country are expected to receive below-average rainfall.

According to the department, due to the gradual southward movement of the monsoon along the low-pressure line, there will be a decrease in monsoon activity, resulting in reduced rainfall across the country.

Meteorologist Saroj Pudasaini mentioned that most places will experience below-average rainfall for the next few days.

“Until Sunday, due to the northward position of the low-pressure line, heavy rainfall was observed. However, from today, as the line moves southward, the monsoon will become less active,” he said.

For the next few days, light to moderate rainfall is expected in most parts of the Koshi and Gandaki States, with the possibility of heavy rainfall in some areas, according to Pudasaini.

He further added that there is a possibility of light to moderate rainfall in some parts of State 2, Bagmati, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim.

Due to the rainfall, there is a risk of landslides, floods, and waterlogging in low-lying areas, which could affect daily life, agriculture, health, tourism, road, and air transport.

Therefore, the department has urged everyone to remain vigilant and prepared.
