India opens all gates amid Mahakali River flood risk, settlements affected

KATHMANDU: Due to increased water flow in the Mahakali River, India has opened all gates of the Sharada Barrage that were towards the Nepali side.

With the water level reaching 200,000 cubic meters per second, all gates towards Nepal in the Mahakali River have been opened.

According to the police, the continuous increase in water flow in the Mahakali River has caused all gates towards Nepal to open.

After opening all gates towards Nepal, the police have informed that settlements in the coastal areas have been affected.

The movement of vehicles has been stopped for three to four days in the Sharada Barrage.

After the water level in the Mahakali River reached 100,000 cubic meters in the Sharada Barrage, vehicles were stopped on the way.
