KATHMANDU: Kanchanpur district has experienced extremely heavy rainfall.

The Hanumannagar, Dodhara, and Sundarpur rain measurement centers have recorded between 570 millimeters and 620.4 millimeters of rainfall.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has indicated that more rain is likely.

Due to the heavy rainfall, the water levels in most rivers flowing through the area are currently above the danger level.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Umesh Joshi of the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, 1,622 individuals from 466 households affected by flooding have been relocated to safe areas.

Families in Dodhara Chandani Municipality, Bhimdatta Municipality, and Punarbas have been moved to safety due to the heavy rains and resultant flooding.

These individuals have been housed in schools and with relatives.

DSP Joshi reported that more settlements are at risk of flooding as the heavy rain continues.

Additionally, a child from Krishnapur in the district has died due to house flooding.

Solu Dhanuk, a seven-month-old boy from Krishnapur Municipality-1, Motipur, died after water entered his home.

The police reported that he suffocated while sleeping in a hammock inside the house.
