KATHMANDU: All 56 gates of Koshi Barrage have been opened after the flow in Saptakoshi has increased.

Due to continuous heavy rainfall for the past two days, the water flow in the Saptakoshi River has risen significantly, leading to the opening of all 56 floodgates at the barrage.

According to police sources, as the water flow continues to rise, a red flag has been hoisted at the Koshi Barrage.

The barrage, with a capacity to discharge nine lakh cubic feet of water per second, is currently releasing 3 lakh 70 thousand cubic feet of water per second.

With the increasing water flow, heightened vigilance has been adopted, and monitoring along the riverbanks in Sunsari has been intensified, as informed by Sunsari police spokesperson Nabinkrishna Bhandari.
