Monsoon rains pose landslide & flooding risk, high alert urged

KATHMANDU: Currently, the entire country is under the influence of monsoon winds.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, the impact of monsoon winds has led to generally to completely overcast skies across the country.

This morning, light to moderate rain is occurring in many places in the Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim States, as well as in a few places in other States.

In the afternoon, it is expected to remain generally to completely cloudy across the country.

There is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunderstorms in many places in all States.

Heavy to very heavy rain is likely in a few places in the Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim States, and in one or two places in the Madhesh States.

Additionally, the Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim States may experience very heavy rain in one or two places, as per the division’s forecast.

At night, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunderstorms in some places in the Madhes, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim States, as well as in a few places in other States.

Heavy rain is also likely in a few places in the Sudurpaschim State and in one or two places in the Gandaki and Lumbini States.

Due to the monsoon rains, there is a risk of landslides in hilly areas and flooding in riverine areas, so the division has urged people to take necessary precautions.
