Argentina advances to Copa America semifinals

KATHMANDU: Argentina advanced to the Copa America semifinals after defeating Ecuador 4-2 in a penalty shootout.

Lionel Messi missed Argentina’s first penalty by sending the ball over the bar.

Despite this, four other players scored successfully, securing their victory.

Ecuador’s chances were hindered when two of their players had their penalties saved by Argentina’s goalkeeper.

Earlier in regulation time, Argentina took an early lead with Lisandro Martinez scoring in the 35th minute, countered by Kevin Rodriguez’s injury-time goal for Ecuador, ending the match 1-1.

Argentina now awaits the winner between Venezuela and Canada for their semifinal match on July 9th.
