Three days of heavy rainfall expected, red alerts issued in 30 districts

KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecasted the possibility of light to heavy rainfall in various parts of the country for the next three days.

Many areas have been experiencing rainfall from night-time onwards.

Under the purview of the Department, light to moderate rainfall is expected in one or two places in Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati States, while some places in other States may also experience similar conditions.

Heavy rainfall has been forecasted in Sindhupalchowk according to the department.

The water level at the measurement center of Melamchi River in Nakote has reached an alert level due to a steady rise in water surface, posing a risk of flooding in the lower riverbank areas.

Similarly, moderate rainfall has been reported in Ratangadhi.

The department has measured moderate rainfall at the Koilabas rainfall measurement center. There is a possibility of additional rainfall, which could increase the risk of sudden flooding in small rivers in the region.

There is a possibility of the monsoon system remaining active in the southern part of Nepal near the low-pressure area, which may remain active for some time.

The Meteorological Forecasting Division has issued a red alert for 30 districts in Lumbini, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim States, where heavy rainfall is expected.

From Friday to Sunday, there is a risk of landslides, landslips, and debris flows in urban and Terai areas, as well as an increase in water levels in large and small rivers, streams, and canals, the department has informed.

Due to the possible impact on daily life, agriculture, health, tourism, roads, and air travel, the department has appealed to the general public and all concerned authorities to remain vigilant and prepared.
