KATHMANDU: Today, a hearing is scheduled at the Supreme Court regarding the suspension of Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane.

The writ petition filed in response to Lamichhane’s alleged involvement in a cooperative fraud case has now reached the stage of oral arguments.

On Tuesday, lawyers representing the cooperative victims and advocate Anupam Bhattarai engaged in a debate.

Following the arguments, an order is expected regarding Lamichhane’s alleged involvement in the cooperative fraud case.

Earlier, the Office of the Attorney General had issued a letter stating that there was no jurisdiction or prosecution against Lamichhane in the case.

Despite public allegations made by victims of Suryadarshan Cooperative against Lamichhane, the Attorney General’s Office gave Lamichhane a clean chit. After this, advocate Bhattarai filed the writ petition.

The Supreme Court has now ordered Lamichhane’s suspension and the initiation of proceedings against him in connection with the cooperative fraud case from Kaski and the Supreme Savings Cooperative in Butwal.

This writ was heard on June 21 by a bench of Supreme Court justices Sapana Pradhan Malla and Saranga Subedi.
