KATHMANDU: With Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ facing a minority, cleaning activities have begun at his private residence in Khumaltar.

According to a member of Prachanda’s secretariat, staff have been assigned for the cleanup.

If the agreement between the Nepali Congress and UML remains intact, Prachanda will have to vacate the official residence in Baluwatar.

According to the constitution, he must seek a vote of confidence within a month, and if he fails to secure it or steps down beforehand, KP Sharma Oli or Sher Bahadur Deuba will become the prime minister under Article 2.

The Nepali Congress and UML have agreed that Oli will become the prime minister as per Sub-Article 2 of Article 68.

However, legal experts argue that if Prachanda fails to secure the vote of confidence, Deuba will be appointed as prime minister under Sub-Article 3.

Prachanda has been residing in the official residence in Baluwatar for 18 months by adjusting the political dynamics.

UML ministers participating in the government are prepared to resign today, which will leave Prachanda in the minority.

Discussions have started on the options to remove Prachanda, who is preparing to stretch out his tenure for another month.
