KATHMANDU: Former Madhesh State Assembly member Kaushal Kumar Yadav, who was arrested on charges of murdering Armed Police Force Assistant Inspector Thaman BK in Mahottari, has been remanded to jail by the Mahottari District Court.

The murder took place on Bhadra 25, 2072 BS (11 Sept 2015), during the Madhesh movement.

Yadav, a former Constituent Assembly member, was arrested last Saturday in connection with this case.

Judge Phaneshwari Ghimire’s single bench ordered Yadav to be remanded in jail for pre-trial detention on charges of murder.

Additionally, Yadav was fined NPR 5,000 for arson, according to Registrar Nutan Jha.

Yadav was elected to the Constituent Assembly from Mahottari Constituency No. 4 in 2064 BS representing the then Madhesi People’s Rights Forum Nepal. He was later elected to the Provincial Assembly from Mahottari Constituency No. 4 (A) in the 2074 BS elections.

On Mangsir 28, 2080 BS (14 Dec 2023), the Mahottari District Court sentenced seven individuals, including Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP) Nepal Madhesh State Parliamentary Party leader Abhiram Sharma, to life imprisonment for their involvement in the murder of Assistant Inspector Thaman BK.

However, the court acquitted Laxmi Mahato Koiri, a Member of Parliament elected from Mahottari Constituency No. 1, and Pawan Kapar in the same case.
