KATHMANDU: Agni Prasad Sapkota, spokesperson and vice-chair of the CPN (Maoist Centre), has claimed that the formation of a government by the Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN-UML is unconstitutional.

Speaking to the media after a CPN (Maoist Centre) officials’ meeting held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday, Sapkota stated that the agreement between the two parties was unexpected and lacked constitutional legitimacy.

He further mentioned that the consensus between the Congress and UML was not based on democratic values and principles.

He argued that the idea of the two largest parties in the country forming a government together was unnatural and indicated a regression rather than progress.

“We feel that the recent developments are unexpected and not natural or constitutional. It does not seem to be based on democratic values and principles,” he said. “The idea of the first and second largest parties in the country forming a government together does not seem natural. There are talks of constitutional amendments and issues regarding proportional representation. This indicates a move towards regression rather than progress. This is not right.”

Spokesperson Sapkota claimed that the government has performed well in terms of social justice and good governance.
