KATHMANDU: After the agreement between the Congress and the CPN (UML), Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has called a meeting of the central office bearers of the CPN (UML) to discuss developments in the political arena.

It has been indicated that discussions will focus on whether to form a new government with the consent of Congress and the CPN (UML), or to take a vote of confidence if they agree to resign.
With the possibility of an alternative government formation dimming after the merger of the two major parties, some leaders have suggested that resigning and taking political steps might be appropriate.
Following discussions on developed politics, Secretary of the CPN (Maoist Center) Ganesh Sah suggested that appropriate steps would be taken by the Prime Minister upon resignation, opening the way for the formation of a new government.
Otherwise, Ministers from the CPN (UML) will have to resign to withdraw their support from the government.
In such a situation, Prachanda estimates that he will be able to take a vote of confidence within a month, as provided by the Constitution.
However, given the situation where the Congress and the CPN (UML) have joined forces, Prachanda does not rule out political opposition in terms of power-sharing.
