KATHMADNU: A hearing on the petition demanding the suspension of Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane will take place on Tuesday.

The petition, which was previously deferred on June 21, has now been scheduled for a hearing.

The petition, initially placed under “continuation” by the joint bench of Supreme Court Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla and Saranga Subedi, had not been concluded during its previous session.

Advocate Anupam Bhattarai filed the petition after the Attorney General’s Office stated that there were no complaints or prosecutions against Home Minister Lamichhane, who had been linked to a cooperative fraud case.

The petition claims that Minister Lamichhane, accused of misappropriating savings from a cooperative society, obtained a “clean chit” from the Nepal Police and the Attorney General’s Office, thereby influencing the investigation. Bhattarai has requested an order for Lamichhane’s suspension to be issued to the Prime Minister.

On June 10, the Supreme Court sought reasons for not listing Lamichhane as an opponent in the case concerning the defendants of the Supreme Cooperative based in Butwal.
