KATHMANDU: Wildfires in three locations in Turkey’s western province of Izmir have spiraled out of control, prompting the evacuation of numerous residential homes.
According to the state-run TRT broadcaster, the fires broke out in the Menderes, Selçuk, and Çeşme districts.
Firefighters are actively combating the flames, using both aerial and ground interventions, despite challenging weather conditions.
Meanwhile, the blaze in a grassy area temporarily closed the highway connecting Izmir to the popular holiday resort of Çeşme.
The fire also poses a threat to Selçuk, renowned for its ancient city of Ephesus, one of Turkey’s most visited tourist destinations.
