KATHMANDU: Indian cricket stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have announced their retirement from international T20 cricket following their victory in the T20 World Cup.

In a post-match press conference, Indian team captain Rohit Sharma confirmed that the T20 World Cup final against South Africa was his last international T20 match.

“This was my last game. I enjoyed every moment. This is what I wanted, to win the World Cup for India,” Sharma said. Despite his retirement from T20 internationals, Sharma will continue to play Test and One Day International (ODI) cricket for India.

Before Sharma, senior player Virat Kohli had also announced his retirement from the T20 international format.

“This was my last T20 World Cup. This is what we aimed for, and this was my last T20 match for India. We wanted to lift this cup. Now it’s time for the young players to take T20 cricket forward,” Kohli stated.

Under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, India secured the T20 World Cup title for the first time in 17 years.

The last time India won the T20 World Cup was in 2007, under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
