KATHMANDU: Venezuela has advanced to the quarter-finals of the Copa America football tournament.

In a match held this morning under Group ‘B’, Venezuela defeated Mexico 1-0 to secure their spot in the quarter-finals.

Despite Mexico having more ball control in the competitive match, they failed to score. In the 55th minute, Venezuela was awarded a penalty after a foul by Mexico’s Julian.

Salomon Rondon converted the penalty to give Venezuela the lead.

In the 83rd minute, a foul by Venezuela’s Miguel Navarro led to a VAR review, resulting in a penalty opportunity for Mexico.

However, the penalty taken by Orbelin Pineda in the 87th minute was missed.

Following the missed penalty, Mexico could not make a comeback, and Venezuela secured a 1-0 victory, climbing to the top of the group table with 6 points.

In the final group stage matches, Venezuela will play against Jamaica, while Mexico will face Ecuador.
