India advances to T20 World Cup semifinals defeating Australia by 24 runs

KATHMANDU: India has advanced to the semifinals of the ongoing T20 World Cup.

They secured their spot by defeating Australia by 24 runs in the final match of the Super Eight stage.

Chasing a target of 206 runs set by India, Australia managed to score 181 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs.

For Australia, Travis Head was the top scorer with 76 runs, while Indian bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav took 3 and 2 wickets respectively.

Earlier, India, after losing the toss and being put into bat, scored 205 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their 20 overs, thanks to a stellar 92-run innings by captain Rohit Sharma.

With this victory, India topped Group A of the Super Eight and advanced to the semifinals, where they will face England on June 27.

Conversely, this defeat has jeopardized Australia’s chances of reaching the semifinals.

The second team to advance from Group 1 will be decided after the match between Afghanistan and Bangladesh on Tuesday morning.
