Floods in Melamchi wash away bridge

KATHMANDU: A temporary bridge constructed in Melamchi Municipality-11 has been washed away due to the heavy rainfall last night.

The information was confirmed by the Mayor of Melamchi Municipality, Aitaman Tamang.

After the floods of 2078 BS, a temporary bridge was built in the same location by placing hume pipes. It connected Melamchi Bazaar, wards 7 and 8 of Melamchi Municipality, wards 1 and 2 of Panchpokhari Rural Municipality, and some wards of Helambu.

Concerns have been raised within the wards as the bridge connected one village to another.

According to Mayor Aitaman Tamang of Melamchi Municipality, precautions will be taken to secure the bridge by placing hume pipes as soon as the monsoon season begins to prevent further damage.
