Water levels in major rivers in Mongolia rise, warning issued

KATHMANDU: Recent heavy rainfall has led to a significant increase in water levels in major rivers across Mongolia, prompting a warning from the national agency responsible for weather and environmental monitoring.
Several key rivers such as Terelj, Tuul, Khurlen, Selbe, and Sugnugur have exceeded the caution level by as much as 82 centimeters, with levels rising from 10 to 82 centimeters above the warning threshold.
The agency has forecasted further rise in river water levels in the coming days, particularly in the western, central, and eastern regions of the country, which have experienced heavy rainfall.
The agency has issued a warning urging the general public and especially those residing along riverbanks and tourists to exercise extra caution and prepare for potential hazards resulting from the heightened water levels.
