KATHMANDU: Mahendra Raj Khatiwada, the director of The River Overseas Manpower, has been arrested by the police in Itahari.

The arrest was made on charges of fraud, according to the chief of the Area Police Office in Itahari, DSP Tek Bahadur Karki.

Khatiwada is facing three potential charges: fraud, cheque bouncing, and disorderly conduct.

DSP Karki stated, “Complaints have been filed regarding fraud, cheque bouncing, and disorderly conduct. Further details will be uncovered through the investigation.”

Initial investigations suggest that Khatiwada defrauded the public under the guise of a manpower company. The police arrested Khatiwada on Wednesday based on formal complaints lodged by some of the victims.

More than three dozen victims have filed complaints against Khatiwada, alleging that he defrauded them of over 7 million rupees.

The victims claim that Khatiwada and other directors of The River Overseas Manpower deceived them under the pretense of sending them abroad for employment.
