Bharatpur Metropolitan taking help of indicators in budget allocation
Metropolitan economic administration chief Jagannath Aryal said this is the first time the local government has decided to implement this provision.
CHITWAN: The Bharatpur Metropolitan has decided to read the performance indicators of ward offices in the allocation of budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2081-82 BS (2024-25).
This approach aims to encourage those wards performing better, it is said.
Metropolitan economic administration chief Jagannath Aryal said this is the first time the local government has decided to implement this provision.
Rs 820 million is the budget ceiling fixed by the local government for the ward-level allocations. Of the amount, 29 wards are liable for an equal portion of the budget which is Rs 25,862,000 each, totaling Rs 750 million.
The allocations of the remaining Rs 70 million will be based on performance indicators such as revenue collection, capital expenditures, populace, geography, good practices, education level, environment status, greenery promotion, and so on. The evaluation was based on a 100 score.
Ward number 2 has secured its first position in the evaluation, being able to draw an additional Rs 29,002,000 from the Metropolitan while ward number is in the second position being liable to get Rs 2,8951,000 and ward no 20 has been able to get Rs 2,8945,000.
The lowest budget which is Rs 27 million 428,000 is to be allocated to ward no 24.
Manoj Ranabhat, the chair of Ward 2, said the ward’s revenue collection in the current fiscal exceeds Rs 20 million, double that the last year and the supplies and consumption of tobacco products have been prohibited in 100 meters periphery of a school.
Likewise, the online household data has been undated and smart lights have been fixed inside the ward.
Likewise, a night market has been established from the Namaste Chowk to Mayor Chowk and a greenery campaign has been promoted.
Environment-friendly and sanitation efforts have been scaled up.
Mayor Renu Dahal said that this new practice in the budget allocation is expected to promote wards for healthy competition while serving the best interests of citizens.
