Surya Nepal premier Golf Championship tees off on Tuesday at Gokarna

KATHMANDU: The final event of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2023-24, Surya Nepal Premier Golf Championship will tee off today at Gleneagles Design, Gokarna Golf Club.

The event will be played over 72 holes from 17th to 21st June. There will be a cut applied after 2 rounds (36 holes).

Only top 21 pros and ties will make their journey to the final 36 holes along with top six amateurs and ties and those who make the professional cut.

37 professional golfers will test their skills for whooping prize money of Rs 1.55 Million. Winner of this grand finale of the season will be richer by Rs 275,000, runner-up will get Rs 175,000, the Third place will earn Rs 122,000, the Fourth place will take home Rs. 102,000 and fifth place will pocket Rs 88,000. Others inside top 21 will earn prize money. 11 amateur golfers will rub their shoulders with professionals.

The money leader of the season Bhuwan Nagarkoti is leading by Rs.118,875 over Niraj Tamang. Bhuwan has so far earned Rs 566,875 so far in this season with one win at the Surya Nepal Western Open, and Niraj has accumulated Rs. 448,000 on prize money this season also with one win at the Surya Nepal Kathmandu Open.

Dinesh Prajapati is third with Rs 415,667 after playing seven tournaments, he marked a victory at the Surya Nepal NPGA Matchplay. Rabi Khadka is fourth with Rs. 372,000 after winning the Surya Nepal Challenge. Sanjay Lama has made Rs. 260,625 so far.

The money leaders will face challenge from Subash Tamang defending champion of the event who has five events under his belt as an amateur on Surya Nepal Golf Tour. Winner of two events–Surya Nepal Central Open and Surya Nepal NPGA Tour Championship– Sadbhav Acharya shall be one of the top contenders of the event.

Reigning number one professional Sukra Bahadur Rai will miss the event due to injury.

Pro-am of the Surya Nepal Premier Golf Championship is scheduled for Saturday 22nd June. 25 professional golfers and 100 amateurs are will tee off in an exciting format which allows corporate level amateur golfers much needed exposure.
