Three held in Ilam for brutally burying puppy alive

KATHMANDU: Three individuals have been arrested by the police in Ilam on charges of brutally beating and burying a puppy alive.

The arrest was made in Jitpur, Deumai Municipality, Ilam, based on a complaint filed by the Kathmandu Animal Welfare Society.

The incident came to light after a video showing the young men torturing and killing the puppy was shared on social media.

The video was initially posted on a Facebook account named Sugam Morahang Limbu but has since been removed.

Sneha Shrestha, the president of the Animal Welfare Society, stated, “It appears the puppy was killed in a very cruel manner. Those who commit such heinous acts must be punished according to the prevailing laws.”

Under Nepalese law, it is prohibited to treat any animal cruelly or kill them in a brutal manner.

Those found guilty of such acts can face up to three months in prison and a fine of up to Rs 5,000.
