KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Waste Collectors’ Struggle Committee has staged a demonstration in Kathmandu.

The protest, which began on Sunday, has continued with persistence even into Monday.

They are protesting against the decision of the KMC to remove waste collectors from within the city limits.

The waste collectors have demonstrated from Maitighar to Baneshwor on Monday as well. In their protest, they have demanded an end to the intimidation of small traders, protection of waste collectors, enforcement of the rule of law, and respect for the decisions of the court, among other demands, as seen on their placards.

The Committee has indicated that they will continue the protest until the decision of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City to remove waste collectors from within the city limits is revoked.

The waste collectors have stated that they have been forced to protest with the objective of displacing the waste collection centers within the city limits.

They have highlighted the necessity of their livelihoods, citing the adverse effects of removing waste collection centers from within the city limits.

Previously, the Metropolitan City had issued notices to relocate waste collection centers after conducting micromanagement.

However, after the waste collectors refused to relocate, the Metropolitan City even operated bulldozers to clear the centers.
