KATHMANDU: Due to protests by various associations of tanker operators, a petrol shortage has emerged in the Kathmandu Valley.

The shortage occurred after tanker operators from Thankot halted their deliveries.

Since Saturday, tanker drivers have been on strike, presenting several demands, which has led to a halt in the transportation of petroleum products and subsequently, a shortage.

The Nepal Petroleum Tanker Drivers’ Association initiated the strike on Saturday, putting forward a seven-point demand.

The association issued a statement outlining their protest plans: wearing black armbands on Saturday, displaying black flags on vehicles on Sunday, and completely ceasing work on Monday by handing over the tanker keys to the vehicle owners.

They expressed their dissatisfaction, citing that they have been working for Nepal Oil Corporation for a long time without essential services and benefits.

Private petrol stations have been closed since Sunday, causing long queues at government-run stations.

Long lines of vehicles can be seen at locations such as the Nepal Police petrol pump in Naxal and the Nepal Army petrol pump in Bhadrakali.
